The 2nd round of Sunsilk Academy Fantasia singing competition was held at Dragonfly Bar on 21 July 2012, graced by the special appearance of TVB artistes Moses Chan and Selina Li!

The 7 male contestants seemed to stir up a more exciting atmosphere as compared to the female contestants in the 1st round.

My personal favorites for this round:

ET (AFSG14) <如果没有你> I was surprised that this most petite guy in the group has such loud, clear & bright voice that sounded extremely pleasant from where I was seated & probably the only one whose voice is picked up by the mike best. The judges seemed in favor of this contestant though they felt that it would be better if he sat through the whole song to bring out that simplicity of the song.

Jun Yang (AFSG08) <工体北> Being the 1st contestant, I think he made a pretty good stage performance – lively & cheerful.

Irwin (AFSG12) <不潮不用花钱> Despite being sick, I think he did well with dance moves. I am expecting more dance songs from him from now! Judge 潘盈 commented that Irwin’s short so she couldn’t see him well when he “hid” at a dark corner of the stage, and when he moved to the centre, she still couldn’t see him cos he was blocked by the audience.  (LOL)

Zhang Chi (AFSG09) <情非得已> Song choice not too bad, however, I feel he can loosen up a lil more. It was so touching when his parents flew to SG for a stage surprise.

Kenneth (AFSG10) <王妃> When I heard that he was going to sing 蕭敬騰’s 王妃(listen to 蕭敬騰 HERE) , I told C: “gosh! This song is so difficult for 1st round! It’s either he sings very well… or very bad.” And I was right, for the latter. Kenneth’s image is good, but it was such a waste to challenge himself like this for the 1st time. Voice – not powerful enough. I think his confidence dropped during the performance when he looked around at the judges/audience. He was also the eliminated one the very next day.

Phil (AFSG11) <小小虫> This guy loves Singapore. Give him credit for his effort & passion for mandopop and learning mandarin! He can work more on his pronunciation.

Guang Li (AFSG13) <背对背拥抱> This guy is so amicable & talented, but apparently too nervous & stiff for his 1st performance.

The girls’ performance looks fine on video, but when I was standing there beside the stage, it was very disappointing. Their voices weren’t picked up by the mike well and lacked unity. I think it would also helped if the super-long hair girls reduce the number of times they sway their hair – it reminds me of chinese opera.
