Review: Lumenis LightSheer DUET

I went for a Permanent Hair Reduction Trial for the underarms about 3 weeks ago. And I think it’s time for a review after observing the growth after the procedure for 3 weeks! :)

You might have noticed that I’ve used the word Reduction instead of Removal. Why is this so? After a consultation and learning about hair removal/reduction from the Doctor who did the procedure for me, I learnt that there’s no 100% removal of hair regardless. No matter how many times you go for laser or IPL there will still be a few strands of stubborn hair which refuses to be removed.

Our hair follicle will go through various phases during the growth cycle and laser works best on hair in the active growth phase.

So how does this LightSheer Duet works? It’s a new machine that will enable hair removal to be fast while being safe and effective. It will suck up the skin like a vacuum so that the hair will be nearer to the laser source and then it will be heated up. This is something like burning the hair as you will actually smell the burnt hair smell during the procedure. The laser will disable the hair follicles to regrow.

But like I mentioned, laser only works best on growing hair, hence multiple treatments is needed to reduce the hair greatly. This is because our hair are in different growing phases at any one time. That’s why multiple treatments is needed to treat the hair when they are in different phases.

20130412-142647.jpg

The LightSheer Duet comes with two ‘guns’, one to target at larger areas and one for small areas. The one for small areas comes with a chill tip to cool down the small areas.

The great thing about this laser is that the procedure is super fast! For my trial, it takes less then 2 minutes for the whole procedure! Of course the 2 minutes does not includes the prep time where the nurse will cleanse and shave the treatment area to prep for the laser. Pain wise is super minimal.

20130412-142858.jpg

Probably a 1 on a scale of 10, as I mentioned the LightSheer Duet will suck up the skin like a vacuum so there might be a little pain for some. For me it is quite ok but maybe it’s because my threshold for pain is quite high.

20130412-142907.jpg

Now let’s talk about the effectiveness of the laser. This might sounds gross but I tried to pull at the hair on my underarms area with my fingers after the treatment and some came out very easily. Good sign, which means the laser is working as the hair follicles were destroy and hence the hair strands could be removed without any pressure.

I shaved a few days after the treatment so as to be able to monitor the growth. I noticed that the hair are growing in patches and some areas are clean of hair. I would say there’s at least a 25% reduction of the hair. Sorry, there’s no visuals of my pits as it’s a little unglam to post it up here. :P

I think I’m going back for a few more treatments from my own pocket. It’s recommended to have 4-6 treatments with an interval of 4-6 weeks between each treatment for the best results. I was even told that there are some people who are satisfied with the results after 2-3 treatments. But of course this is depending on individual as it might be super efficient on some and not as much on others as we all have different hair growth.

If you are interested to know which Clinics does Hair Reduction with Lumenis LightSheer Duet, drop me an email and I will direct you to the contact person. Do note that only Doctors can use the Lumenis LightSheer Duet for procedures so you can be sure that it’s 100% safe and fuss free!

Here’s to less hairy pits! :P

The things about the Skin

You know, the pretty looking lady you’re looking at above with just light makeup is not born like that. (Ok, I know. Thick skin alert. Lol) Those who have read my blog back from my Onsugar days should know that my skin used to be really really horrible.

Just to show you the difference. This was back in 2010, and this is still one of the better ones. I’ve some that shows red angry acne but I’ve decided I shall not put that up. But if you do look at some of my old posts, you might be able to see how bad it really is back then.

When I first started, I gone through the mistake of putting on too much makeup for the sake of covering the flaws. Slowly, I began realizing the fact that a clean canvas is the most important thing. So from makeup, I slowly devote myself to learn more about skincare, how the skin works and what sort of products is suitable for my skin.

My current skincare regime consists of products from various brands. One thing in common, is that they are all mild and suitable for sensitive skin. I’ve learnt that my skin could not take heavy cream products as they will break my skin out. So I’ve been staying to gel/lotion type of products. One personal skincare tip I have to share is to mask every other day! :)

Skin should look good when naked. I’ve always love how my skin is now after removing my makeup. Even if I do breakout once in awhile, I know that I can manage it now.

And of course, with a clean canvas you will definitely look better with makeup. You do not have to cover up so much that you will end of looking cakey or simply having too much on the face. Less is always more.

Let me show you an old photo of mine when my skin just cleared up. Do you notice any difference other then the hairstyle?

As some of you know, I did fillers for my cheeks and nose last July and the photo with bangs is after procedures. Features are definitely more define and smaller face.

With good skincare plus aesthetics to achieve that flawless skin and defined features, you will definitely look good. And of course, makeup will further enhance your overall look!

I’m definitely happy with my current looks. If you noticed, there ain’t much changes. Clearer face, more defined features and of course slimmer as I’ve lost a little weight recently. One can definitely be prettier. You just have to put in the effort!

And of course some help. Check out Myfatpocket and Aesthetics Hub for beauty tips and articles on aesthetics and embark on your journey to find the prettier you!

Beauty, in the eye of the beholder

Being a beauty blogger, I do have my own definition of beauty.

Yet, there’s many definition out there. As per how there’s many type of different beauties out there.

To me, inner beauty is very important too. Sometimes, you don’t have to look super gorgeous to be beautiful. But that smile or that confidence you have came make an above average person to an absolute beauty.

One of my all time favorite beauty of western origins would be Anne Hathaway. I would die to have her looks! She is gorgeous.

For the Asian counterpart, I really think that Korean actress/running man cast Song Ji Hyo is really beautiful too. She is often seen without makeup in running man yet she still look really good.

And for guys wise, you can’t deny that Korean have a lot of pretty boys. Ulzzang is super popular now and as a popular ulzzang before his debut, I’m sure many agree with me that YongHwa is one hot pretty boy.

With the technology nowadays, being ugly is no longer a problem. Or rather, being a beauty is not longer a difficult thing. Plus, you don’t have to be born with it to be one.

Yes, I’m referring to aesthetics procedures or even plastic surgery. A topic that used to be a taboo and is now a common most talked about topic. Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to look better. I’m pretty sure even those born good looking have something that they want to change about themselves too.

My fillers experience was the best experience I ever had in my journey for beauty. Although fillers is not a permanent job like plastic surgery, I prefer it as I’ve no guts to go under the knife. Plus, our facial features changes every few years. That’s why I personally think that non-invasive procedures like fillers is fine.

The moment when I looked into the mirror after my fillers procedures, I’ve found a new lease of life and never felt more confident then. Even now, when my nose fillers have subsided quite a lot, the confidence level is still there. It is the feeling of being able to look better and better. Just a minor change to the features, I still look the same, but prettier.

Everyone out there deserve to look better be it guys or girls. There are many ways to do so, be it dressing up, putting on makeup, going for facials, going under the needles or knife.

If you’re really looking into redefining your features, aesthetic procedures is definitely a choice to be considered.

What you didn’t know about Botox at Aesthetics Hub

20130310-133151.jpg

Did you know… that Botox can Treat Acne Breakouts, Eliminate Large Pores, Reduce Sebum Production?

A plastic surgeon in Chicago injects directly into the skin to eliminate large pores, oil production and acne breakouts. He said that Botox prevents the production of the sebum, which in turn starves the bacteria that causes pimples.

Did you know… Botox May Prove to Be Surprising Ally Against Depression

Botox is a wrinkle reducer. A study confirms that facial muscles do not simply broadcast people’s emotions, but are important for identifying and experiencing emotions which, in turn, interrupts the development and maintenance of negative emotions.

Did you know… Sweaty Women Use Botox To Smell Good

The bad odour that accompanies sweating also puts a question mark on personal hygiene. Botox selectively blocks the activation of sweat glands and hence no sweat is released.

Did you know… you can make your Botox Lasts Longer by Taking Zytase before the Injections?

A Houston doctor said that since Botox is zinc dependent – they need zinc to work, he wondered what would happen if he “gave people zinc before their Botox injections. So, he combined a high dose of zinc with a phytase enzyme and Zytase was born. The drug is taken four days before and on the day of the Botox injection. The Botox’s effects last longer – meaning fewer shots and less money spent!

Did you know… you can inject Botox in your Feet so you can wear super high heels without feeling the pain?

A self-confessed shoeaholic has paid more than £300 to have a “Loub job” — fillers and Botox injected into her feet — so she can wear her favourite designer Louboutin stilettos without feeling any pain.
