after shock is a movie about the earthquake that happened in tangshan 34years ago
the 7.8 earthquake which took more than 24000 lives on 28 july 1976
the earthquake happened right at the beginning of the movie
buildings shattered within seconds
thousands of lives destroyed
however the movie is not just about the earthquake
its about how people picked themselves up after such a huge disaster
how people moved on with life and left behind the emotional trauma..
after the earthquake
a mother was informed that her twins were trapped under the same slab
while saving one means almost immediately kill another
after her husband’s death in the earthquake
she had to make the most difficult decision of her life
in the end she chose the son
and the girl who was awake heard the decision and teared..
however the girl miraculously survived
suffering from the painful memories of her mother’s choice
she refused to reveal who she was
she was then adopted by a military couple
grew up in a comfortable environment
and married to canada later on
on the other hand
the brother who was saved lost an arm
and the mother who had to sacrifice her daughter
lived in the painful decision forever
in 2008, another earthquake happened in sichuan
the twins who were miles apart decided to join the rescue team
and finally met again in sichuan
going through the earthquake once again from a third party’s view
the girl finally found forgiveness in her mother
and reunited with her real family
in 23 seconds, tangshan earthquake changed everything
the ‘aftershock’ remained in the hearts of the victims throughout their lives
32 years later
only then they lived out of the emotional trauma
